Events and campaigns are the front doors to our organizations, but the real magic happens when we invite people to stay, hear our stories, and truly join our family.
Building on this idea, we kicked off the Power of Philanthropy (POP) Workshop by looking at how to turn a single moment—a contribution, a sponsorship, or a third-party event—into a lifetime of shared purpose.
To bridge the gap between first introductions and long-term commitment, attendees discussed how to design seamless, meaningful pathways for our supporters. The goal is to make staying connected feel effortless—as simple as signing up for a favorite streaming service.
This kind of sustainable engagement thrives when we give families and partners a space to continue honoring the legacy of love. By consistently sharing these beautiful, heartfelt moments, we don't just maintain a connection—we show our partners the tangible impact their support helps create.
Legacy of Love: The Heart of the Mission
The workshop reminded us that walking alongside families is a privilege requiring deep sensitivity, recognizing that philanthropy and new connections are often forged out of moments of profound loss. By creating thoughtful community initiatives, we provide families with a meaningful channel for a legacy of love.
Holding space for that legacy is an organization-wide commitment; nurturing a safe, trustworthy, and caring environment is how we build a true culture of philanthropy. The heart-centered work thrives when staff, volunteers, committees, and community partners work as one to honor our donation and transplantation community.
Power the Mission Behind the Scenes
Let's be honest...the "back office" side of a nonprofit can feel like a total rollercoaster of spreadsheets, compliance, and endless next steps. It's the heavy machinery under the hood and not the glitziest part of the ride, but absolutely the power behind the engine.
To help us keep that engine running smoothly, the workshop leaned right into the operational weeds. We took a dive into CRMs and how AI can help our data, tackled ethics, and demystified the legal side of healthcare foundations. We even rounded out the day with actionable steps for those ready to take on the CFRE credential.
The goal of mastering all this behind-the-scenes machinery is simple: it's about working smarter and getting right back to what we love the most—the mission!
High-Flying Inspiration
To wrap it all up, our amazing keynote speaker—world-record pro skydiver and peak performance coach Melanie Curtis—brought it home and filled the room with electric energy. She challenged every single one of us to look past the invisible blocks holding us back, step out of our comfort zones, and FLY!
The workshop may be over, but the energy is still buzzing, and we can't wait to see how our attendees stick the landing by putting this POP energy into action.
"...calm your breathing, relax your shoulders, and just focus on the mile we are in, not the miles we had to go." Sophia Dick
Philanthropy isn't just about the distance to the finish line; it's about the intentionality of each step. As Sophia Dick learned during her unexpected marathon race, sometimes we must relax our shoulders and go for it.
When we focus our attention toward the immediate need, our impact deepens and becomes more sustainable. By staying in the present, we turn a long journey into a series of powerful, purposeful stride.
